Beware of fake parking fines and check payee bankgiro numbers

8/28/2015 Double-check parking fines in Stockholm County! The police have received a dozen or so reports about fake parking fines. The fraudsters, a company called Parkeringsbolaget Sverige AB, have ticketed incorrectly parked vehicles throughout the county. The bankgiro number to which the parking fines are to be paid is now closed.

Information about bankgiro numbers

At Bankgirot's website www.bankgirot.se you can search for information about a bankgiro number. A search reveals which company has a certain bankgiro number and in most cases you can also see the company's address and corporate ID number.

As to whether a rogue company is behind a particular bankgiro number Bankgirot cannot say. On the other hand, rogue companies are included on the Swedish Trade Federation's warning list.

Rogue companies on the warning list

The Swedish Trade Federation's warning list covers fake invoices and companies with questionable sales methods, as well as special offers or mailings that can be considered misleading. However, the fact that a name is not included on the list does not guarantee that the business is genuine.

Bankgirot takes a serious view of the fact that bankgiro numbers are used in fraud or attempted fraud. Together with the Trade Federation, Bankgirot works regularly to close Bankgiro numbers connected to rogue players. Bankgirot also cooperates closely with the police authorities and all banks to enable the rapid implementation of measures when incidents occur," says Security Manager Lars-Göran Emanuelson

Bankgirot acts against rogue players

When Bankgirot's customer service receives information that a bankgiro number is being used by a rogue company, Bankgirot always contacts the company's bank and urges it to take all necessary actions.
