What is Bankgirot's role in the modernisation of Sweden's payment infrastructure?
We are responsible for ensuring the current payment system's operating reliably while we build a new IT infrastructure and new interbank payment products, based on Nordic standards.
What will happen to Bankgiro numbers?
Bankgiro numbers will continue to function within the new payment infrastructure.
How will file communication work after banks have migrated to the future-proofed Bankgirosystem?
After the migration, file transfers for services other than Autogiro and E-invoice (Bg E-faktura) will no longer be possible directly via Bankgirot. Your bank will offer new solutions for file-based communication. Please reach out to your bank for more information on what applies to you.
What is the timeline for the migration of payment flows?
The transition from the current payment infrastructure to the new one will be structured and secure, with system stability as the highest priority. The plan is to complete the migration — excluding Autogiro payments — by the end of 2026. Each bank will manage the timing and details for their own customers, so please contact your bank for specifics.
What will happen to the services Bankgirot currently provides?
Current services will continue to operate until payment flows are fully migrated to the new system. After that, some services (Supplier Payments, Salary Payments, Value Vouchers, and Incoming Payments) will no longer be available via Bankgirot. Your bank will inform you of the alternatives they provide.
What will happen to Autogiro and E-invoice?
Autogiro and E-invoice (Bg E-faktura) will remain going forward. Together with the banks, we are working to ensure that our services remain relevant, reliable, and secure.
